Let's review the topic of spiritual surrender.
First, what to surrender? What comes to mind right away is our will and our very experiencing.
And taking what step comes to mind?
Simply put, we place something higher in importance than our usual sense of self and seek to align our will with that. We acknowledge that our usual self can never get beyond its limits, though being truly alive may well lie beyond those very limits.
And what would you call this 'something higher' influence?
I would avoid calling it anything. I would say each of us can have an intuitive knowing about and deep gratitude for what is beyond us, for what actually animates and sustains us. Each of us can discover what best to name this or to relate to this knowing.
And what does that lead to?
Basically, it implies the dismantling of our self-importance, the selfishness we consider normal, par for the course.
Another way of putting this?
That we are giving up our self-absorption, our resistance to a higher influence, to a current of love that can truly transform who and what we think we are.
