What do you make of anyone claiming awareness that they are not the doer of action, as in 'nobody's home,' 'there's no I or me here'?
I would say 'watch out!' Most such claims are likely premature, made by someone unprepared to make them. One way to escape self-absorption is to relate to Personal or Impersonal Self as the only doer (you could say that ultimately there is no small doer or even large Doer, only the Source of all doing, often referred to as the witness). Of course even that is no guarantee ego-mind won't subvert your practice.
As in "I'm not responsible, it's out of my hands?"
Sure, as in anything goes, hey it's crazy wisdom in action. The alternative: a state of sincere remembrance of the Beloved, realizing that all doing ultimately has one goal, awakening to Self.
Is that really enough?
Then trying to serve this wish to awaken as one not coming from me as I am, rather from Real Self, a real wish. Doing my best but the results are none of my business.
Still not foolproof.
Nothing is. We just have to be willing to be foolish, to acknowledge our actual helplessness, to stand firm before the tidal wave of our lacks.
