Let's assume we live in a state of dreaming we're awake. To most this may seem absurd, meaningless or just too abstract. What can make this more concrete?
Only getting jarred out of our habitual states, getting knocked out of our socks.
And what might trigger that kind of shock?
Probably enough suffering to wear out ego-mind's resistances, enough weakening of its insistence to survive, allowing us then to see and feel our inherent illusions and contradictions.
And yet, suffering sounds like another way to make ego-mind even more entrenched.
True enough; for example, suffering accompanied by resentment leads nowhere except to more repetition of the same. But what if we were to discover a different way, a way to make use of suffering that lessens our dreaming in the midst of our actions and reactions, in the midst of the ups and downs of this pinball machine that we call duality consciousness?
