out on a limb

Those pursuing spiritual paths/disciplines will likely crawl "out on a limb" sometime.......passing a safety point where there is no longer support and the limb could give way.

From one point of view this is a plus; it is a leap of faith or a leap beyond knowing. But what if one has been using spirituality as an "additive" to boost ego-performance? Then it can result either in profound disillusionment or drastic re-appraisal.

Either way, the more people involved with spirituality the better. There can be more collective receptivity to change, more invitation to transformation, more fertile ground for the lightning bolt of awakening........

humpty dumpty (part 3)

Humpty Dumpty analogies are all parts of our own stories. They illustrate what happens after Humpty has fallen off his wall, when the eggshell of our ego is shattered. In part 1 and part 2 Humpty is variously presented as innocent bystander and as both prepared and unprepared for change.

Unprepared for what kind of change? For an unrequested wake-up call; for a shock that compels waking up from a sleepwalking state.......This is when Humpty's shell is so shattered that remedial work can't duplicate his prior makeup, much to his dismay.

What if Humpty has some preparation? Then a shift to a new sense of self is very different. The change is sought, invited; regaining one's prior state is no longer wished for. Fear or disorientation is minimized.

How so?  A focus on awakening of spirit creates inner stability, inner trust. This gives the sense that all is as it should be, no matter the outcome. Then letting things fall apart can be done more fearlessly and even more joyously.

our ebbtide currents

Attraction to our Awakened Self is like a wave pulled back to the ocean after breaking on shore. It is like ebbtide; the ocean current reverses, reverts toward itself. This pulling-back is a time of opportunity, a time of preparation for the high tide to come.

There is nothing "less" about low tide; it's a very active part of the cycle; a more hidden or mysterious part. It's the inner rehearsal behind the scenes. With high tide comes a new expression from that rehearsing.

These tidal currents of awakening are in our blood; a preparation for a new sense of self.

spiritual additives

Adding spirituality to one's life is not like adding an additive to a car's gasoline to improve performance. Actually it is not even a matter of addition; more like subtraction.....a subtraction of obstacles and entanglements.

The house of our present ego is big enough; why add another wing to enhance it? Why bring a consumer mentality to spiritual seeking? Additives are addicting. Even seeking can become an additive if a sincere heart is not cultivated, if the heart's knowing is neglected.

If cultivated, the heart's knowing will sprout wings that awaken to the consciousness of Oneness....... a completion to which nothing need be added.
